A Matched Set

Sometimes I even inspire myself . . .

Title: A Matched Set
Rating: G
Word count: 100
Pairings or characters involved: Blakeney
Character to give rum to: The Cabin Boys
Author and notes: [info]linaerys

They all had names: "Bruiser", "Long Tom" (Pullings's particular favorite), and of course "English Death". All except the two lonely little stern-chasers larboard and starboard on the quarterdeck. Blakeney thought this unfair, and he cast about for appropriate names. "Aubrey" and "Maturin" seemed good to him, but perhaps his stalwart captain wouldn't like a lowly little stern-chaser named after him.

Blakeney took a spike with him one night watch to etch his mark under those little cannons, but when he got there it had been done already. One had already been christened "Calamy" and the other bore his own name.

How perfect is this? You're right, I should absolutely join. And I will as soon as I'm done slapping around the fic that's open on my desktop right now. Honest. :)

Re:

I suppose that's a valid excuse. But drabbles are so fast. You can do them at work!

Re:

Sadly I'm currently doing the slap-around-fic at work. I'm such a bad employee. But I'm due to be done with it before noon..

I note that y'all are divided up into teams? Did I read the challenge right?

Re:

Yes, that was my latest idea, to encourage participation. If you join, I'd like to put you on the cannon team, because it was your naughtiness that led me to make that challenge in the first place.

Plus, it's my team, and the sword team is kicking ass so far.

Hee, thanks! Yes, I just loved Blakeney, and I don't usually love kids in movies.

Calamy is great in the books, if you haven't read them.

This is adorable, Lin! (Yes, I've finally seen the movie and am reading back through your challenges. *g*)

Re: A Matched Set

Eee! Glad you liked it!

This fandom doesn't inspire me the way Archie Hornblower does, but I enjoy running the drabble community, and sometimes inspiration does strike. =)
