Subject:Another Challengeless Drabble
Time:11:33 pm
Title: Revealed
Rating: PG
Word count: 100
Pairings or characters involved: Stephen and Jack
Notes: I’m just reading Post Captain. As they cross France, disguised as a bear and his trainer, Jack starts to learn more about his friend’s other line of work.

Stephen was finding it increasingly difficult to hide his identity. For the last two hundred miles, he'd been forced to depend upon his intelligence skills and contacts to preserve both their lives.

Jack had to have figured him out by now, had to know what sort of creature he really was. He could hardly have failed to notice.

He was glad that the bear-head prevented him from seeing the realisation growing in his friend’s eyes.

He had told himself before that this deception had been for Jack’s sake, were they ever caught.

In truth, it had been for his own.

Thank you.

I actually prefer writing with a chellenge, but one has to make due. Hopefully there will be one tomorrow.

Very nice perspective, there -- usually, I'd say that I can feel it happening, but in this case... I can *feel* it.

Ooh, lovely. I've wondered whether Jack suspected even before, waiting anxiously to rendezvous with Stephen.

During the trip in the bear suit, Jack was starting to suspect.

From Post Captain, page 99

Stephen was stragely reticent these days. Jack had supposed he knew him through and through in the old uncomplicated times, and he loved all he knew; but now there were new depths, an underlying hard ruthlessness, an unexpected Maturin; and Jack was quite out of his depth.

Stephen had gone on, leaving him. Stephen had a passport into Spain - could move about there, war or no... Jack's mind darken still further and thoughts he dared not formulate came welling up, and ugly swarm.

And he had seen Stephen buring letters, recieving information, summgling papers and talking to contacts.
